Putin favours Iran with military warning to US

President Vladimir Putin handed the Iranian regime a welcome publicity boost yesterday when he delivered a stern warning against US military action during a historic summit in Teheran.

Becoming the first Kremlin leader to visit Iran since Josef Stalin in 1943, Mr Putin also secured an important undertaking from Caspian states to deny US forces access to air bases in the event of a military strike against Teheran’s nuclear installations.

Revelling in the opportunity to goad Washington, Mr Putin greeted his host, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, with a flamboyant display of bonhomie. The two men hugged enthusiastically on a red carpet flanked by a guard of honour. They exchanged hand-shakes and smiled for the cameras as Mr Ahmadinejad greeted his guest who had flown to Iran despite dubious Russian claims of a plot to assassinate him.

…..Mr Putin seemed eager to offer his counterpart unconditional support, repeating claims that there was no evidence to suggest Iran wanted to build a nuclear bomb.

Mr Putin also secured the vital backing of Azerbaijan in a five-nation pact by the Caspian states to prevent the US from using the region as a staging ground for military action against Iran.

Putin says terrorists want to inflict “maximum damage to Bush.”

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) — Russian President Vladimir Putin says terrorist attacks in Iraq are aimed at preventing the re-election of U.S. President George W. Bush and that a Bush defeat “could lead to the spread of terrorism to other parts of the world.”

Putin, speaking Central Asian Cooperation Organization summit in Tajikistan Monday, made his most overt comments of support so far for the re-election of Bush for a second term.

“Any unbiased observer understands that attacks of international terrorist organizations in Iraq, especially nowadays, are targeted not only and not so much against the international coalition as against President Bush,” Putin said.

“International terrorists have set as their goal inflicting the maximum damage to Bush, to prevent his election to a second term.

What’s changed?

This is one point of contention, and this,

oh, and then there’s the trade issue:

  1. i really hate to try to simplify things, but some times it helps when searching for reason or an opinion

there is a false impression going around that our military is spread out, too involved, or wearing thin, and while we work some things out with others, rivals will use the time to make additional military threats in hopes for us to back out of other matters at hand. fortunately, we are anything but spread thin, i feel as though i can almost promise that any military threat from Iran, Russia, North Korea, or China can be handled promptly and with much great force, world force, to be simple these powers don’t understand our current military involvement either, but others would simply understand if the likes of the mentioned pushed their military on us. a whole different situation for everyone

once we are out, watch what happens

i’ll be interested in reading your blog for an update once this happens

  2. Um. If we invade Iran, Russia, North Korea and China, I probably won’t be updating my blog very much. I’ll be too busy trying to spear rats for Christmas dinner in the ash-heap of a nuclear winter.

  3. Yeah, and I’d be digging my bunker and organizing the Oregon Militia, preparing for a real life Red Dawn.

As much as I support the current Iraq and Afghanistan missions, I think we could easily get spread too thin. I don’t really want to go to war with China or Russia. I’d just as soon we figured out some other way to make Iran shut up too. The problem will come if any of those countries start making threats or taking actions that simply can’t be ignored.

How hard do they really want to push? That’s the interesting question.

  4. don’t be scared, sadly i think (as in this whole comment is my opinion) simply another example is going to be set, but on a much larger scale, much larger, sadly

almost feel like others are pushing them into this, and someone can’t wipe the wool from their eyes to see it yet, they see more power instead

(i really want go on about the miconception of the current war, but there were many reasons for why the Navy and Air Force did not stick around long, this is currently a small scale military operation with a bigger goal, one we obvious aren’t good at, unlike if some one builds country wiping missiles and talks about wiping other countries off the map, that is a no no)

China and Russia won’t mind at all, neither will North Korea, if anything it will…

    ehhh, nevermind

no WWIII, go back to your regular programming

just be a bit happy and proud while watching that tv that people are willing to sit behind jets and ships because they understand this is not an idealistic world for you and i (and everyone else we protect) to remain free

  5. George Bush’s juvenile name, Pootie Poot, and his statement, “I looked the man in the eye. I was able to get a sense of his soul”, were deeply insulting to President Putin. By turning away from Washington, has returned the insult.

Perhaps Russia will again warm to the U.S. when the White House is occupied by a mature and intelligent president.
