Feels like I should put something here, cus I hate to think my site has died all the way dead.
No, no; it sleeps like a dormant volcano.
I’m participating in National Novel Writing Month- getting off to the usual anti-productive start of indecision, babble and procrastination. Wheee! … Feels like old home week.
Interesting to me how people who are peripheral to all that deep, dark writing intent seem to be inspired to write. While I vacillate around a pile of disparate words, I’ve received the pleasure of absolutely beautiful writing from others through e-mail & blog entries. None of these people are doing nanowrimo, but want somehow to also make writing a priority for November.
I am much more impressed by their output than my own.
It’s been fun to connect with a few on twitter who are also giving it a try. You can tell the veterans because they gamely dig in, in a low profile way, knowing today’s ideas will mutate & knowing they might lose steam in the middle or drop off & fail of their goal.
It’s the process, not the hype. Someday I’ll learn that. (But the hype is kind of fun.)
Hope you’re all well out there in blog-land. I won’t mention the elections right now. I don’t want to jinx my darling Kitzhaber whose still in a neck & neck race for Oregon Governor.
Hoping. Hoping quietly.
Tell me, if you feel inspired, what projects you’ve taken on for November, the beginning of the gloom we dub wintertime.
Hoping the hearth-fires stay warm for you,
A.
** addendum: John Kitzhaber won! Yay, and welcome back, governor.
I pink puffy heart winter, dark and all. I love the holidays and cool crisp weather, etc. I live in California, so our winters are neither too cold nor too dark.
I’m glad you’re not password protected anymore. I adore your writing, and if you ever decide to write a novel, I’d love to read it. Writing is a gift, easily shared. So many gifts are difficult to share.
I appreciate that, J. I’d love to share such a gift. Thanks for coming back to check & visiting- and I know what you mean about winter. It’s purely the absence of light part that makes the winter a bit depressing in these northern regions.
I think we’ve lost hope here in Ohio. The state went red again. Ah well… the pendulum continues to swing, back and forth.
I’m feeling inspired lately, mostly by my daily walks. I think I may be a little bit crazy, having taken on a year-long commitment to get outside, especially with winter coming on. I don’t know how inspiring it is going to be when the temperature plummets and I have to trudge through snow and ice.
Wishing you all of the right words and plenty of inspiration throughout NaNoWriMo. Like J, I adore your writing.
(((hug, hug, hug)))

[julian whispers] shhhh… don’t tell anyone. I’m doing NaNo again, too.
Third time’s a charm I hope. I’m cheating a bit and have decided to finish the one I started two years ago when I abruptly had to leave NaNo to tend to Emmie. ‘Member? But I’m starting at day seven where I left off. I haven’t looked at it since last year and don’t really remember much of it so… Is that really cheating? : )
p.s. ditto J’s second paragraph.
I’m not joining in on the writing pursuit but wanted to add my wee voice in cheering you on in yours. Keep fighting those things which would keep you from getting it down, getting it out. Woot-woot!!
Robin! Julian! Norm & J! It sure is nice to see you all. Had to say that.
Robin- Our governor-elect said something good on his announcement yesterday morning, if a little idealistic, paraphrased-, ‘We can get things done if we refuse to let the media define us as a red and blue map. We’re people. Let’s focus on the common ground.’
Your winter walks might get challenging, but there’s a pure, austere beauty in being out there when no one else would venture out.
Julian *hugggg* Hi! I do remember. I remember like it’s yesterday, can’t believe it’s been two years! And I’m thrilled that you’re giving it a go, too. Going to try and get ahead of the word count this weekend so it doesn’t feel as if it’s constantly looming over. Do you happen to participate in any local write-ins? I might be doing that this year.
Norm :) Thank you for the cheer. I hear your words of wisdom. Gonna go do a little fighting right now.
I am not even doing Nanowrimo this year. I feel bad about it. This is the first time in seven years that I haven’t done it. I just can’t seem to string together more than a paragraph of words. It’s been that way all year long. I’m hoping 2011 will bring back my writing.
*knock*knock*
I’ve neglected not only my own blog, but my blogging buddies’ blogs. Damn that Facebook! And then there was the holidays and surgery for my son, and the new writing critique group I am helping organize (that’ll be two I’m in). So just dropping in to say we are BFBB (Best Friend Blogger Buddies) for life. So how did the novel go? I’m one of those waiting to read you. You’ll have to publish on Kindle, though. I’m in love, and that device is sucking a lot of time–but in a good way. This is rambling, but just wanted to touch base.
Bet you’re off somewhere else on the internet, being your wonderful self. Just wanted to say hi. :)
@Robin-If you want to touch base with our little sprite you have to go on Twitter. That’s how she rolls. :-)
Thanks, Anhinga. :)
Apparently I’m not cut out for Twitter or Facebook. Can’t seem to get the hang of either of them. I think it’s because I lack the brevity gene. Or my brain is too slow. I’m inclined to go with the brevity thing, though. That whole 140 characters thing really threw me for a loop. I leave it up to Networked Blogs to autopost at both places for me which is probably a terrible way to use both social programs as it is not very social of me. More spam-like, I suppose. It’s just the only way I have of reaching friends who don’t blog.
Maybe we could turn Am’s blog into a place to hang out occasionally. Stop & Wander is a great name for a social network.
Great idea, Robin. We’ll just mozy over here, have a drink and chat whenever we feel like it. Maybe one day Amuirin will walk in and join the party. :-)
I like that, Anhinga. :)
Robin and Anhinga…
I’ll drink to that. : )
Hope all is well in your world.
Amuirin’s too.
Goodness, you all had a little tea-party while I was gone. I can’t hardly say tea-party now, cus of other connotations, but this qualifies. All that was lacking was cucumber sandwiches.
You may have noticed stop & wander disappeared for awhile. I had to go back & forth a bit with administration, my Thoreau ant-fight blog apparently violated copyright law, but the blog is back & I’m so grateful not to have lost all the writing & comments over time. Your thoughts through the years are irreplaceable, as are some of the travel memoirs I saved of vacations with my daughter.
Yay!! I was afraid we’d lost you. So nice to ‘see’ you. You are irreplaceable too; always said so.
Welcome back! :D
